Facebook has a great outreach. It is catered often to precise sorts of people but can often be limited by the people on your friends list. There are many online media with which an artist can share their work. (The days of hanging fliers in your favorite establishment are seemingly coming to close.) So where do you go to share your work to a wider fanbase?
Welcome to the dawning age of the podcast/webcast.
All around the world, people are now able to broadcast straight from their location. Either with video, text, or audio there are several outlets who reach out to interesting, influential people to speak about their work. Aside form these sorts of 'casts,' there are still television broadcasts and the opportunities to be featured on television.
This post is to help you see the importance of sharing fanbases. When you collaborate with media outlets who focus on different types of artist, person or features, you offer your work to a totally different clientele. This is the sort of mutual benefit that is imperative in order to become successful in these fields.
Look around your hometown for podcasts, webcasts, television broadcast, and bloggers who need material for their shows. That material is YOU!
